What was your top story from Waukesha in 2011?

Whew!! That’s about all I can say after the year it has been in the City of Waukesha.

The 2011 year was a time of change within City Hall highlighted by its city administrator stepping down during the summer.

It marked a time of change within the Waukesha School District highlighted by the 130 retirements at the end of the school year.

It was a year where the city debated, debated and debated late into the night on an executive budget that saw its fair share of twists and turns. It was also a year in which the city’s water source continued to be on the minds of many.

But beneath the politics and the government news, it was a year in which the youth in this city excelled in the classroom and in extra-cirriculars.

Its athletic teams were at the top of its class in numerous sports and made winning state titles look easy and where an academic decathlon continued to shine at the national level.

There were many significant moments from the year and Waukesha NOW reporter Christopher Kuhagen will document his top 10 stories and include some others that were important from the 2011 year in the Dec. 29 year-in-review edition.

But we also want to hear from you. We want to hear what your significant moments were from the 2011 year or what you view as the top story in Waukesha was for 2011.

You can send your responses to ckuhagen@cninow.com with your name and where you’re from and we’ll include it in the Dec. 29 edition as a “Letter to the Editor” style response.

There are no major guidelines to this besides thinking back on the year and giving us your thoughts on it.

You can give us your opinion on how you think city officials have done this year, your thoughts on the water debate, the budget process — including that one-time controversial garbage fee, the state of the city’s downtown and its Friday Night Live event or what you think about the state of its school system.

You could even tell us what you think needs to change or what you’re looking forward to for 2012.

Here are a couple questions you can ponder when thinking back on the year.

- What was your favorite moment from the 2011 year and why?
- What, in your opinion, was the most significant story from the year within the city and why?
