Lichtie resigns as Waukesha alderman

Waukesha - Charles Lichtie submitted his resignation Thursday as Waukesha's 12th District alderman, effective immediately.

Lichtie, 63, said health issues prompted his decision. He said he suffered a serious back injury about three years ago and it has gotten worse.

"I just can't give this job 100%," he said of his aldermanic duties.

Lichtie was an alderman from 2000 to 2004 and since 2007. He was last elected in 2010 to a three-year term. The 12th district is on the southwest side of Waukesha.

Scrima said anyone interested in an appointment to succeed Lichtie should submit a letter to the mayor at City Hall, 201 Delafield St., by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 25.

The Common Council will interview applicants at the council meeting March 1 and will then vote by secret ballot that night.

The selected candidate will serve until April 2012 and then would have to stand for re-election to a one-year term.
