Filled Waukesha shelter to remain open

Waukesha — Waukesha’s emergency overnight shelter for men, which was filled to capacity Tuesday night, will remain open Wednesday, shelter coordinator Tammy Scott said.
The shelter, which opened an hour earlier Tuesday night because of blizzard conditions, at 6 p.m., housed 35 men overnight, Scott said. The facility at Northview Road and Grandview Blvd. will remain open until 7 a.m. Thursday, as of now.
Waukesha Metro Transit buses stopped operating early Tuesday night and are not operating Wednesday, making transportation more difficult for some of the homeless. A charter bus from The Hope Center in downtown Waukesha is being used to provide shuttle service when necessary.
The shelter, which opened in mid-December, had been operating most days at below the 35-man capacity, according to Bernie Juno, executive director of Hebron House of Hospitality, which operates the shelter.
Although the blizzard has passed, extreme wind chill temperatures are forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday.
