Established in 1965, HAWS assists over 6,000 animals and welcomes more than 31,000 human visitors annually. As an "open admissions" shelter we lead the community in animal welfare and assure sanctuary for all animals in need, regardless of age, health or temperament. HAWS is a non-profit, entirely donor-fund organization with an active humane education program, and both wildlife and companion animal rescue services for Waukesha County.

"Fair" August Days and Riding for HAWS

August for HAWS means a pet fair, motorcycle rally and great activities for pets and their people!

HAWS’ Ride for Rover again merges with the Pet Fair in Menomonee Falls on Saturday, August 16th.

Ride for Rover V “revs-up” at 8:30am at Hal’s Harley-Davidson in New Berlin. The rally visits Central Bark (Sussex), Friends of Nature (Genesee), Maxie’s Southern Comfort (Milwaukee), Petlicious Dog Bakery & Pet Spa (Pewaukee) and of course HAWS’ shelter in Waukesha! Fees of $25/drivers, $15/passengers include food and beverages from Hard Wood Café at the Ride “after party” at HAWS’ Pet Fair in Menomonee Falls. All are welcome – register at hawspets.org or come to Hal’s by 9:00am on Ride day.

HAWS’ 7th Annual Pet Fair in Menomonee Falls runs 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rotary Park (Fond du Lac Ave./Lilly Rd.). This FREE, pets-welcome event features pet and pet-themed products, presentations by pet experts, games and raffles, plus meet'n'greets with adoptable pets from HAWS and our rescue partners. Come, sit and stay all day! Sponsored by Family Pet Clinic, Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center, Happy Hounds, The Dog Sanctuary, Friends of Nature – Menomonee Falls, American Natural Premium and Brook-Falls Veterinary Hospital.


HAWS’ Mobile Adoption Center “brings happy tails to you” with visits including National Night Out celebrations in Butler and Mukwonago (8/5) and Waukesha (8/13), plus fundraisers at Pick’n’Save in Wales (8/10) and Culver’s of Mukwonago (8/12).
