State Senator Mary Lazich's Statement on Attorney General Opinion regarding the Government Accountability Board

Madison- State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) released the following statement after the Attorney General opinion about the Government Accountability Board not having to share all pertinent information with the Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) during an audit of the GAB ordered by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee:

“Numerous concerns have been expressed about the inner workings and accountability of the GAB.  The legislature, at my request, commissioned a nonpartisan audit of the GAB to examine the agency functions and fulfillment of its statutory obligations,” Senator Lazich stated.  “My intent remains to wait and see the results of the audit before rushing to judgment.  However, today’s opinion from the Attorney General’s office, suggesting that the Government Accountability Board is itself unaccountable to the people through the nonpartisan legislative audit process, raises major concerns.”
