Legislative Audit Bureau Releases Audit of Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance and Wisconsin Weatherization Assistance Programs

The Wisconsin Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) released an audit about the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance (WHEA) and Wisconsin Weatherization Assistance (WWA) Programs.  These two programs receive a majority of funding from the State-Wide Low-Income Assistance Fee charge on every Wisconsinites utility bill.

The WHEA provides financial assistance for low-income individuals and families paying energy bills.  The WWA provides financial assistance to reduce energy usage.  The two programs are overseen by the Department of Administration (DOA).

The LAB’s audit reveals DOA needs to conduct more internal audits of the programs and implement policies that will improve the programs integrity and oversight including a better records retention policy.  DOA has until November 14, 2014, to report back to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee about the agency’s progress in implementing the audits findings.
