Month of May is Older Americans Month

Published on: 5/13/2014

According to the website www.HolidayInsights.com, the month of May is

  • National Blood Pressure Month
  • National Barbeque Month
  • Date Your Mate Month
  • National Salad Month
  • and many many more

Our agency, along with other organizations serving senior citizens, recognizes that May brings a special highlight on Older Americans.  If you search on the internet you'll find various proclaimations and lots of statistics about older Americans in our country.

At Interfaith, we celebrate the impact older Americans make on Waukesha County every day.  Each year we are honored to work with 550 volunteers age 55 years and older who help in schools and nonprofit agencies.  These volunteers give hours of their time to help students with math and reading, and help out at food pantries, shelters, thrift stores, and other organizations.  They tell us that volunteering in retirement keeps them active, connected to the community, gives them something to look forward to, and helps them to meet new people and learn new skills.

Thank you to the Waukesha County Older Americans who have helped to build our thriving community and continue to impact the lives of all who live here!
