Governor's Weekly Radio Address: Growing Business in Wisconsin

As we continue to grow our economy, we are always working to develop and implement new and innovative ways to help companies expand, start up, or relocate in Wisconsin.

One of the ways we’re doing this is through the state’s Certified Sites Program. It works with communities throughout Wisconsin to create “shovel-ready” industrial sites. Once a site is certified, a potential developer has all the information needed to make a quick decision about whether that site is right for their needs. And providing developers with instant access to that information – things like how close a site is to major highways and rail lines, or whether there are any other environmental issues – give those communities a competitive edge when it comes to attracting new businesses.

From Janesville to Chippewa Falls from West Bend to Verona, there are now 13 Certified Sites throughout Wisconsin, including Wisconsin Rapids, the state’s newest site.

Already, we’re seeing dividends from this relatively new program. In the state’s largest Certified Site – a 760-acre business park in Stevens Point – Service Cold Storage has just started construction on a $19 million distribution center that’s expected to create about 30 new jobs.

And that’s just the beginning. Stevens Point officials are working hard to bring more businesses and more jobs to the East Park Commerce Center.

This is just one example of the how our Administration – working with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and others – is taking proactive, aggressive steps to make it easier for companies to call Wisconsin home.

The state partnered with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association to produce and distribute a brief radio address once a week. Audio files and a written transcript of this radio address can be accessed on http://www.wi-broadcasters.org and http://walker.wi.gov/media/weekly-radio-addresses.
