I saw the intricate, creative quilts at the Waukesha County Museum Saturday during the Janboree free admission day. Most, if not all, the quilts commemorated various days or holidays. The two examples above recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Inauguration Day, but I don't remember seeing one for the National Day of Service which is also today.
I went to the museum for Holly Nagel's hula dancing and storytelling, loved it, but the special quilt exhibit too was a sight to behold. Holly is an interesting person who taught a couple hundred young kids to hula dance in the old courtroom on the third floor of the museum, never losing her patience or smile. Her website tells us she's a motivational speaker of adults... with balloon shapes. It explains everything. If she can have patience teaching adults to shape balloon animals then you'd think teaching small children to hula would come almost naturally.
Weather didn't cooperate for much of Janboree, though warmer weather made walking around more convenient Friday and Saturday. There was no sledding due to no snow and no fireworks due to too much wind Friday night. The indoor events still went without a hitch... I thoroughly enjoyed the fire dancing show by Flame Fatales in Waukesha North's auditorium. As safe as the thrilling fire spinning looked, the packed auditorium did witness two examples of clothes catching fire.
