Joint Finance Committee meeting again Friday

budget

The Joint Finance Committee worked late into the night yesterday. Petulant protesters tried to disrupt the committee’s work by shouting down speakers. The Finance Committee continued working through the interruptions. People causing the disruptions were removed from the room and cited by police.

The Finance Committee expanded school choice throughout Milwaukee County and Racine. The school choice reforms also increase the income eligibility levels to 300 percent of the poverty level, the same eligibility level as the BadgerCare program.

In other action, the Finance Committee adjusted Governor Walker’s recycling portion of the budget and continued funding the recycling program at current levels. The Committee also increased funding to municipalities by about 25 percent over the Governor’s budget.

The Finance Committee is scheduled to continue debate on remaining aspects of the budget today at 1:00 PM.
